We wanted to create an informational resource capable of providing independent expert appraisal on the practicality of your planned investments. Considering the differential approach that advertisers use in distributing POSM to accomplish their objectives, we decided to conduct research and develop a system that would determine the effectiveness of various types of advertising carriers, depending on the set objectives. Not only can this resource determine the practicality of certain carriers, it also allows you to select the best possible combinations thereof in order to achieve the greatest effect in any particular strategy.
Before moving on to a synopsis of the system itself, let's look a little more closely at the tasks that are most popular with advertisers investing in POS advertising. The goals of conducting an indoor POS campaign can be broken down into three categories:
• Tactical increase in sales — these are generally significant and short term
• Maintaining sales at a stable level over a long period of time or during the launch of a new product
• An image campaign organized to support parallel media campaigns
Based on the requirements of the aforementioned types of campaigns, we decided to figure out the interrelation between a store's zone and the types of tasks being tackled. To do so, we conducted our own research on each carrier, taking into account in our appraisal of POSM such parameters as how a consumer behaves when approaching the carrier, his or her ability to remember the product advertised in it, the correspondence between the feelings aroused and the brand's emotional component, and, of course, sales.
Not only does the Effectiveness Calculator allow you to calculate the advisability of investing funds in the placement of advertising materials, it also helps you form the best possible pool of advertising materials for meeting particular objectives: When determining the average effectiveness of simultaneous exposure to multiple carriers, the program provides expert commentary and, when necessary, makes recommendations to switch one type for another.
We hope this initiative will serve as the first step along the path to forming a single set of criteria for appraising the effectiveness of indoor campaigns and that, having removed all the various possible readings in this matter, it will allow clients and agencies to speak in the same simple and easy to understand figures.
